Internship experience

Electrical Intern
I worked as an electrical intern at International Electronic Machines corporation (IEM) summer '14 and spring '15 semesters. It was a great experience to work for an industrial automation company. Apart from assisting other engineers at work by interfacing, testing and evaluating different sensor samples like DT-35 (SICK distance sensor), MLX 90620/1 (MELEXIS IR thermal area array), T11263 - 32 (X) (Hamamatsu IR thermal linear array) and other Inductive proximity sensors from SICK and FARGO CONTROLS, I have worked on the following two projects.

Design of 32 bit A2D board:

My main task is to develop an embedded solution for acquiring data from a geophone sensor or any analog sensor and the data should be of 32 bit resolution. For this project I picked ADS1282 which is a 32-bit ADC chip (Texas Instruments) and PIC32MZ2048ECH144 which is a 32-bit microcontroller (MICROCHIP). This embedded device that I developed can acquire data from an analog sensor, buffer it and transmit the buffered data over TCP/IP or UART or PC104. Finally, I designed the custom schematics for the whole setup since I developed this application on development boards and EVM's. This schematics is to be transformed into a PCB later.

Design of wheel sensor:

The objective of this project is to develop a low cost rail wheel sensor that can detect the presence of the rail wheel. I have evaluated LDC10XX, LDC1314, LDC1614 inductance to digital converter from Texas Instruments. I have picked LDC1614 for our application as it can give 28 bit resolution. I have designed few coils and tested them with the GUI provided by Texas Instruments. Later picked MSP430G2553 to interface with the LDC1614 using hardware I2C.
